Overall, a lot of Simmons going Simmons (definitely could have done without the “snarky blogger” footnote), but pretty good stuff. I appreciate his coming up with ideas that are outside the box, even if they wouldn’t be quite as simple to implement as he makes them sound.
Now the Mavs have to win 3 out of 4. I really can’t stomach the Heat winning the title, but they definitely look like the superior team. However, they do seem to go through spells where they don’t play hard or smart. It’s not over yet, but not looking good…
Also, ABC’s NBA studio show team may be the worst ever assembled. I’m finding it to be pretty much unwatchable. I don’t want to see a journalist like Wilbon acting like he is an analyst. Almost as painful as when Kornheiser was on MNF. I don’t know who at ABC/ESPN thinks Stu and Magic are worthy of such a high profile gig, but I don’t get it. Stu has always annoyed me, but at least he has toned down his act from his younger days doing Sportscenter. Magic, I really don’t get. He wasn’t good on TNT either when he used to be on there sometimes. Jon Barry is actually pretty good, but he needs to be surrounded with others. I don’t know that Shaq is the answer. C-Webb is pretty solid on NBATV; wouldn’t mind seeing him on a higher profile gig. I would even be fine with Doris Burke. She really knows her stuff and is all business.
Great article. Hopefully this Fiesta Bowl scandal brings about some meaningful change to the farce that the bowl system has become. Unfortunately, I’m not holding my breath…
I think this sums up the deal real well. Love the “star-humpers” line. That’s a valid point that I’ve often thought about too. Even in today’s youtube age of easy access to video, do players born in the 90s really give a rip about guys whose best days were in the 80s?
