The Netflix Price Increase
The Netflix price increase is not good news, but I’m not sure I get why there is so much widespread outrage. Part of me thinks it is generated by all the media coverage online, and accordingly, people seeing all the Netflix headlines while online. My big question is, why isn’t there similar outrage and media firestorm when Comcast raises their monthly rates by $5-6 on an annual basis? I think this has happened toward the end of each year for at least the last decade. The cost of cable is insanely high, but we’re all sweating Netflix, which is still a pretty solid entertainment value even with the price increase, and no one else can provide the same combo of services and convenience. I’m just waiting for the time when Netflix or Amazon (or even Hulu) is streaming all of the new movies, not just older titles and straight to video junk.
Also, remember people, you can always check out dvds at your local library for free. Yes, it can be a long wait to get your hands on a new release, but you can reserve them online and then just run in and pick them once your “turn in line” has come up. It’s pretty convenient really, at least in my area.
